Suomen Kaasuenergia has acquired Riihimäen Kaukolämpö Oy’s natural gas business. Its natural gas distribution and sales operations will transfer to Suomen Kaasuenergia on 31 December 2019.
The transaction supports both companies’ long-term objectives. Suomen Kaasuenergia Group is Finland’s largest gas distribution and retail company, with a strategy focused on natural gas and biogas distribution and sales. When the natural gas market opens to competition at the start of 2020, the company will be able to offer customers a wide range of products at competitive prices.
Gas has not been part of Riihimäen Kaukolämpö’s core business in recent years. The company has only ten natural gas customers, and gas-related operations account for only a small part of its revenue.
“The buyer has significantly better resources than we do to develop the natural gas business,” Riihimäen Kaukolämpö CEO Jorma Malmi says.
Suomen Kaasuenergia warmly welcomes Riihimäki’s gas customers.

Customer service and billing for Riihimäen Kaukolämpö’s gas customers will transfer to Suomen Kaasuenergia from the start of 2020, in close cooperation with Riihimäen Kaukolämpö.

Riihimäen Kaukolämpö Oy was founded in 1978 and specialises in local distribution of district heating and natural gas. At the end of 2018, it had 733 district heating customers and ten natural gas customers.
Suomen Kaasuenergia is a Finnish energy group that sells and supplies natural gas and biogas to industry, heating plants, properties, developers, housing companies, restaurants and consumers. Its retail and distribution operations are divided between three companies. Suomen Kaasuenergia Oy is responsible for gas sales, Auris Kaasunjakelu Oy for gas distribution and Auris Energiaratkaisut Oy for heating solutions for industry and properties. In 2018, the companies’ combined revenue was approximately €50 million.
