Suomen Kaasuenergia has acquired Nivos Energia’s gas sales business

Suomen Kaasuenergia Oy has acquired the gas sales business of Nivos Energia Oy, which operates in the Mäntsälä area. Nivos Energia’s natural gas and biogas sales business will transfer to Suomen Kaasuenergia on 1 January 2022.

The transaction supports both companies’ long-term objectives.

“We are Finland’s largest retailer of natural gas and biogas,” Suomen Kaasuenergia CEO Mika Paloranta says. “We focus exclusively on the gas market, so we can offer our customers a wide range of gas products, gas-related services and up-to-date pricing.”

For Nivos Energia, gas sales are no longer a core business.

“By divesting gas sales, we can focus on developing the businesses defined in our strategy,” Nivos Energia Oy CEO Juha Voho says.

Gas distribution in the Mäntsälä area and related services are not included in this transaction. They will remain the responsibility of Nivos Verkot Oy, a subsidiary of Nivos Oy.

Nivos Energia’s gas customers will transfer to Suomen Kaasuenergia on 1 January 2022

The existing gas contracts of Nivos Energia’s gas sales customers will transfer to Suomen Kaasuenergia on 1 January 2022. From that date, the gas they purchase will be priced using Suomen Kaasuenergia’s own SK index.

The SK index is based on prices on the Dutch TTF gas exchange, which Suomen Kaasuenergia fixes during the months preceding gas delivery. Gas pricing based on the SK index is more stable than pricing tied directly to exchange prices.

Nivos Energia is a subsidiary of the Nivos Group, established in 2019. The Nivos Group operates in the Mäntsälä area, supplying customers with services including electricity, district heating, water and broadband. In 2020, the Group had revenue of approximately EUR 25 million and 17,000 customers.

Suomen Kaasuenergia is an energy group with operations divided between three companies. Suomen Kaasuenergia Oy procures and sells natural gas and biogas to more than 25,000 customers. Auris Kaasunjakelu Oy is responsible for gas distribution, while Auris Energiaratkaisut Oy provides heating services for properties and industry. In 2020, the Group’s revenue was approximately EUR 70 million.
