Tell us about your background and expertise
Before joining Auris, I worked as a Technology Manager, with responsibilities including LNG delivery logistics and bio-LNG development projects. I also have experience in biogas and liquefied gas projects and operations, on both the commercial and technical sides.
What would you like to tell us about yourself?
Promoting biogas-powered motoring has been important to me for years, more as a personal interest. I am active in Suomen Biokierto ja Biokaasu ry and was involved in founding Suomen Kaasuautoilijat ry. I advocate for the circular economy and practise minimalism and the reuse of second-hand goods. Personally, I aim to reduce my emissions every year and am working towards zero emissions.
Where are energy markets heading?
Green investment is moving energy markets towards a fossil-free future. Fossil fuel infrastructure has an important role in the transition. As legislation develops, this infrastructure will increasingly be used to advance renewable energy solutions.
Wind and solar power will grow significantly, creating a need for green hydrogen production and derivatives such as e-gas. Biogas, together with e-gas, will play a major role in replacing fossil natural gas.
The focus of gas demand is shifting towards heavy road transport and shipping, but certain industrial processes will also need gas well into the future. Its useful properties mean there is also demand for gas in smaller-scale applications, such as restaurants.
What will become more important in the future, and what should we take into account?
Digitalisation is driving rapid development in sustainability systems. Energy distribution infrastructure is increasingly becoming a platform for delivering renewable energy to customers alongside fossil energy. At the same time, national boundaries are becoming less distinct as we seek greater efficiency in energy systems.
Managing lifecycle emissions becomes more important every year. Companies must consider emissions far beyond their own operations. This will drive growth in the circular economy, which highlights the wider benefits of reducing emissions.
Biogas is already very well placed in this respect. When combined with carbon dioxide recycling and its downstream products, biogas plants become logistics hubs for waste management and for gas and carbon cycles.
