We will be able to offer our customers even more Finnish, fully renewable biogas. We have agreed to buy all the biogas produced by Mäntsälän Biovoima in 2022, an estimated volume of approximately 12 GWh.
“Biogas is an important part of the future clean energy system and the gas sector’s path to carbon neutrality. Synthetic gases and hydrogen will also help achieve this goal later on,” Suomen Kaasuenergia CEO Mika Paloranta says.
Mäntsälän Biovoima is a joint venture owned by Watrec Oy and the Nivos Group that produces biogas and fertilisers. Located along Helsingintie, the plant uses anaerobic digestion technology to produce clean energy from side streams and waste from the food industry and retail sector.
The biogas is purified using membranes and fed into the gas distribution network as pure biomethane. It can then be used for heating or as fuel for transport or industry.
