Auris Energiaratkaisut has long been the heating partner for Valio’s Vantaa factory, producing all the steam and heat it needs.
In early February, Auris lifted and installed a modern 2.5 MW electric boiler and a distribution transformer at Valio’s factory. Some of the existing gas boilers were also retained.
“When electricity prices are attractively low, intelligent control that monitors market prices concentrates steam production on the electric boiler. When electricity prices are high, the gas boiler produces most of the steam,” Auris Project Manager Henrik Palmén explains.
This combination brings Valio cost savings and flexibility. When green electricity is used, the energy produced by the new boiler is also carbon-neutral.

“Installing the electric boiler and distribution transformer went well because, during design and procurement, we had already taken account of the strict constraints that narrow factory access routes and load limits placed on equipment dimensions and preparatory work,” Palmén says.
“Before installation, we also prepared the usual lifting plans and risk assessments, which helped us identify potential problems in advance.”
Old steam and hot-water boilers had been dismantled to make room for the new equipment, and preparatory installation work had been carried out on pipework and other structures, such as equipment foundations and enclosures. Work will next continue inside the existing structures with pipework, cabling and ventilation installations.
