Renewable gas services nearing completion: e-methane to the grid and biogenic carbon dioxide capture to begin

Auris Energia’s renewable-gas projects in Mäntsälä have moved from planning to implementation. Construction of the e-methane grid-injection service is in its final stages, and deliveries will begin in early October. The biogenic carbon dioxide capture project is also under construction, with capture due to begin towards the end of the year.

We are building an e-methane injection point in Mäntsälä, along with equipment for capturing, purifying and liquefying biogenic carbon dioxide. The injection point will connect P2X Solutions Oy’s e-methane production to the Auris gas network and, through it, to European markets.

“Renewable-gas markets are built through action, not seminars. The best part of these services now becoming reality has been the close collaboration with customers. Together, we have moved new services swiftly from ideas to construction sites and viable business,” says Jani Hautaluoma, Auris’s Biogas Business Manager.

E-methane deliveries will begin in October

In August, we announced an agreement to inject e-methane produced by P2X Solutions into our gas distribution network. Construction of the injection service is now nearly complete, and e-methane deliveries will start in October.

“E-methane has been injected into the grid in Germany for years. Now we are making the same thing possible in Finland and opening a concrete route from Mäntsälä towards Germany and the rest of Europe,” Hautaluoma says. “Last year we opened grid injection for biomethane. With industrial-scale e-methane, the circle is truly complete—the same infrastructure seamlessly serves both today’s gases and the e-fuels of the future.”

Biogenic carbon dioxide capture will begin towards the end of the year

The biogenic carbon dioxide capture project in Mäntsälä has likewise moved into the construction phase. We are currently preparing structures and foundations for the carbon dioxide capture, purification and liquefaction equipment.

The Mäntsälä biogas plant produces approximately 3,500 tonnes of biogenic carbon dioxide each year. This carbon dioxide is released from carbon absorbed by organic waste and residues during their life cycle. When it is captured and permanently bound, for example in concrete, the carbon is removed from the cycle. The first commercial application for Mäntsälä’s carbon dioxide will be binding it into concrete products using Carbonaide’s technology.
