Get ahead of 15-minute electricity pricing: we make it easy

From October 2025, 15-minute settlement will change electricity pricing to quarter-hour periods. This means that the timing of your energy use or production will have an even greater impact on costs. Preparing properly can deliver significant savings and even new revenue streams.

At Auris, we help you make the most of this change. Automation and data enable cost-effective scheduling, optimisation and control of energy use and production.

“Our job is to ensure that our customers are not left behind by changes in the electricity market, but are among the first to benefit,” Auris Energy’s Technology Manager Jarkko Kuningas says.

More precise pricing enables more flexible use

Under the new electricity pricing model, there will be 96 pricing periods each day. This makes it possible to take advantage of the cheapest periods more precisely. Although the average electricity price is not expected to change significantly, smart control of consumption can bring substantial savings.

In practice, Auris’s services can operate equipment such as electric boilers and heating processes flexibly in 15-minute intervals, timing their use precisely. Our optimisation is based on historical data, forecasts and real-time energy prices. This allows us to use the most cost-effective energy production solution at any given moment.

New revenue opportunities in reserve markets

15-minute settlement also enables more precise participation in electricity reserve markets. Our customers can sell demand flexibility to help balance the electricity grid in 15-minute periods.

“Equipment that can be adjusted quickly, such as electric boilers, generates additional reserve market revenue for our customers when the automation is in place. We have already implemented these solutions in practice,” Kuningas explains.

The electricity system needs flexibility, and industry can provide it

The growing shift to renewable generation, such as wind and solar power, increases the need for flexible electricity consumption. Rapid fluctuations in electricity generation require balancing, and a functioning reserve market plays a crucial role.

In industry, electricity is increasingly replacing traditional energy sources, and the timing of electricity-based production can have a decisive impact on costs. Cheap electricity periods make options such as replacing district heating increasingly attractive.

Now is the time to prepare

15-minute settlement does not require immediate action, but those who prepare early will gain a head start. For Auris’s energy service customers, this is already part of everyday operations.

“We provide everything as a service: automation, data, technical expertise and continuous optimisation. Our customers can focus on their own businesses while we ensure that energy production and use work as effectively as possible,” Kuningas concludes.
