We are building a biogas distribution network in Satakunta, running from Säkylä through Eura to Harjavalta. The network is intended for biogas producers and industrial gas users. Its construction is an integral part of the Säkylän Biovoima biogas plant project. The approximately 30-kilometre pipeline will support Satakunta’s transition to low-emission energy and strengthen the region’s energy self-sufficiency.
Two parallel pipelines for different needs
The pipeline system consists of two lines. The biomethane pipeline will transport upgraded biogas directly to industrial customers along the Säkylä–Eura–Harjavalta route. The raw gas pipeline will carry raw biogas produced in Säkylä and carbon dioxide for further processing, for example for synthetic fuel production.
“The pipeline creates tangible opportunities for both gas producers and users. Industrial gas users can connect to the biomethane pipeline, and the raw gas pipeline has capacity for production beyond the biogas from Auris’s own Säkylä plant,” Auris Energy’s Biogas Business Manager Jani Hautaluoma says.
“The biomethane pipeline offers industrial companies a reliable way to reduce their emissions without investing in their own fuel logistics,” Auris’s Gas Sales Manager Max Miilakangas adds.
The pipelines will be completed before the biogas plant
Auris has planned the route of the biogas pipeline together with the municipalities of Säkylä, Eura and Harjavalta. For example, Eura’s Municipal Manager Kari Kankaanranta welcomes the project and sees it creating opportunities for the region’s vitality and economy.
Construction of the pipeline will begin in 2026 and be completed by the end of 2027, before the Säkylä biogas plant starts operating in 2028.
“Completing the pipeline ahead of the plant will make it possible to use renewable biogas before the Säkylä biogas plant starts operating. Gas can also be brought into the network from outside Satakunta,” Hautaluoma says.
