Auris Energy plans a €50 million biogas investment in Säkylä

At Auris Energy, we are moving towards an investment decision on the major biogas project we are planning in Säkylä. Preliminary design has been completed, and we will make the final investment decision in spring 2026. Construction is scheduled to begin in the same year, with production starting in 2028. Local industrial companies Apetit and P2X Solutions are set to become partners.

“Demand for renewable biogas is growing rapidly in industry and transport. This project strengthens Finland’s security of supply, advances our national carbon neutrality targets and creates sustainable growth in the Satakunta region,” Auris Energy CEO Anni Sarvaranta says.

A seamless combination of the circular economy and clean energy

The planned biogas plant will use around 230,000 tonnes of side streams from local industry and agriculture each year. These will produce 130 GWh of upgraded biogas, replacing fossil energy in regional industry and transport. Recycled fertilisers produced as a by-product will return to agriculture in the region, reducing the need for mineral fertilisers.

The plant will create an industrial circular economy hub in the area. Apetit Ruoka Oy’s nearby factory is intended to supply food production side streams as feedstock for the plant. The resulting biogas would be returned for Apetit’s use.

Auris is also exploring opportunities to supply some of the biogas produced at the plant to P2X Solutions Oy’s green hydrogen production plant in Harjavalta. P2X would use the biogenic carbon dioxide carried with the gas to produce synthetic methane.

The project offers tangible benefits for Satakunta and Finland:

  • Investment: Around €50 million
  • Energy produced: 130 GWh of renewable gas a year
  • Feedstock: 230,000 tonnes of industrial and agricultural side streams
  • Circular economy: Reduced use of fossil fuels and mineral fertilisers
  • Employment and the economy: Hundreds of construction jobs and dozens of permanent jobs, as well as significant subcontracting opportunities

Strong local cooperation brings the project together

Auris Energy is financing the entire project. Gas1 is acting as the project developer.

“We have prepared this project thoroughly and with a long-term perspective, and the work has been particularly intensive in recent years. Local farmers can trust that the project will go ahead and enter into feedstock agreements with confidence,” Gas1 CEO Mika Kallio says.

Apetit and P2X Solutions are contributing their respective strengths to the project: converting side streams into renewable energy and processing biogenic carbon dioxide into synthetic fuels.

The Municipal Manager of Säkylä welcomes Auris Energy’s investment in Säkylä and its contribution to expanding and developing the municipality’s substantial bioeconomy hub.

“It is excellent that we are welcoming a strong circular economy operator to our municipality. We value our businesses and will continue to create the conditions for business activity and growth in Säkylä,” Municipal Manager Teijo Mäenpää says.

Auris Energy is an energy group with roots dating back to the 1860s. We sell and distribute natural gas and biogas, produce biogas, develop the biogas sector and provide modern energy services for industry and properties. We are committed to Finland, a sustainable future and advancing the green transition.
