Social services provider Sotek-säätiö sr switched selected sites to domestic biogas made entirely from renewable feedstocks in January 2018. It uses biogas for heating and manufacturing products.
Sotek Foundation specialises in vocational rehabilitation, job coaching, expert services and employment services, with sites in Hamina, Kotka and Porvoo. Biogas is used at three sites in Kotka, including one producing garden furniture. These sites previously used natural gas for heating and manufacturing.
“Switching to biogas felt logical because we want to act responsibly and develop our operations with our surroundings in mind. We use it for heating and as part of our garden furniture production process. Its 100% renewability and cost efficiency were among the decisive factors when assessing alternatives,” says Sotek Foundation CEO Marjo Jokipii.
