Electrification and energy flexibility

Electrification that works around your production needs.

An electrified solution built around your production

We assess which electrified energy service solution suits your production needs and how to phase the transition. We also assess opportunities to use the system’s flexibility in reserve markets.

We start with your production goals, current energy production and process constraints. We review temperatures, power requirements, the operating profile, electricity connection, availability requirements and planned changes.

We compare the technical and financial options and design a service solution that we control according to production needs and the agreed goals. The solution can be fully electrified or a hybrid in which electricity, gas, heat pumps, heat recovery and storage complement each other.

When we deliver the solution as an energy service, Auris makes the investments included in the agreed service and operates, monitors and maintains the system within the agreed scope.

Ways to electrify

Electric boilers

An electric boiler can produce the steam or heat your process needs. It can be the main source of production or operate alongside an existing boiler.

Heat pumps and heat recovery

We recover heat from processes or cooling and use a heat pump to raise it to the temperature needed for production or the building.

Hybrid systems

We combine electricity-based solutions with gas, recovered heat or other energy sources when multiple production methods support the site’s goals and operational availability.

Storage and control

Energy storage helps schedule energy production. We control the overall system according to production needs and the agreed cost, emissions and availability goals.

Flexibility within your production limits

Energy flexibility means controlling agreed energy production or consumption within the limits of your production process. Production needs determine how much flexibility the system can provide and when.

When electricity is inexpensive, the system can increase electricity-based energy production or charge storage. When prices rise, it can use another energy source or discharge storage.

If the site’s equipment and processes meet the technical requirements of reserve markets, flexible capacity can be offered to the power system’s reserve markets. Auris assesses technical suitability, available flexibility, the commercial model and responsibilities for each site.

What could the change bring to your business?

Better cost control

We control energy production based on electricity prices, the operating profile, production needs and the available energy sources.

An opportunity to reduce fossil energy use

Electric boilers, heat pumps and heat recovery can reduce the need for fossil fuels. We assess the impact using the site’s energy mix and an agreed baseline.

More flexible energy production

A hybrid system provides options when energy prices, availability or production needs change.

Potential added value from reserve markets

Technically suitable flexible capacity can participate in reserve markets. We assess the opportunity and Auris’s role for each site, without promising participation or returns in advance.

How we put electrification into practice

1. We assess the current situation

We identify energy flows, the operating profile, process temperatures, power requirements and the limits within which production cannot be adjusted.

2. We compare and design

We assess the technical and financial requirements for electrification, hybrid production, heat recovery, storage and energy flexibility. We define the equipment, integrations, control, service scope, responsibilities and monitoring.

3. We manage the transition

We fit construction, testing and commissioning around your production schedule and continuity requirements.

4. We control and improve

We monitor the solution and optimise energy production within the agreed service scope and cost, emissions and availability goals.

Electrification and flexibility in practice

Hämeenlinnan Osuusmeijeri production plant

Hämeenlinnan Osuusmeijeri: electricity and gas working together

Auris electrified steam production through an energy service model. An electric boiler operates alongside the existing gas boiler. Auris controls steam production based on energy prices and production needs and is responsible for remote control and operation of steam production, as well as electric boiler maintenance.

Energy solution at Valio's Vaarala production plant

Valio Vaarala: flexible steam production in reserve markets

At Valio’s Vaarala factory, automation controls the use of electric and gas boilers. Auris optimises energy production based on electricity and gas prices. The electric boiler’s flexibility is used in the power system’s reserve markets within production constraints.
