Tykkimäen Sauna

Purchased energy down by a quarter

2,500 kilograms of sauna stones previously heated only by gas

Tykkimäen Sauna’s 40 m² sauna room has a continuously heated stove containing 2,500 kg of stones. Alongside water heating, the main sauna is the site’s largest energy user. It previously ran solely on natural gas.

In winter 2023, we upgraded energy production through a service model, adding heat pumps and an electric boiler alongside gas. Purchased energy consumption fell by a quarter.

Energy production as a service

We invested in the heat pumps, electric boiler, automation and ancillary equipment. Throughout the contract term, we operate the whole heating system and optimise energy use. Tykkimäen Sauna pays only for the heating energy it uses.

Energy optimisation controls the use of different energy sources according to prices. Heat pumps reduce the need for purchased energy.

The site

Tykkimäen Sauna is on the shore of Käyrälampi in Kouvola, in a leisure area that also includes Tykkimäki amusement park, Kouvola’s largest beach and Aquapark.

The sauna is open to everyone and serves around 45,000 customers a year. Swimming is also possible in winter in a maintained ice hole.

The facilities include a pine-built main sauna, ancillary facilities, a beach, café and terrace services, and floating saunas.
